Taiko performances, traditional Japanese dancing, and bon odori practice will be a few of the highlights of the 2017 Maui Matsuri kickoff event presented by the Araki & Regan Families on Friday, April 28, from 6:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Queen Ka`ahumanu Center – Center Stage
The kickoff event will also feature minyo (folk) dancing, prize giveaways, and a coloring contest sponsored by Sanrio, and more! The bon odori (bon dance) practice around the stage will conclude the event at approximately 8:15 p.m. – those with no experience are encouraged to join in!
The purpose of this free event is to engage the community and bring more public awareness about the upcoming 17th annual Maui Matsuri being held Friday, May 5 (Variety Show – at Binhi At Ani) and Saturday, May 7 (festival featuring food booths, kids crafts, games, entertainment, contests, and more at UHMC).
Admission to the Maui Matsuri and Kickoff events is free, while there is a $5 admission fee for the Variety Show.
