Kahului, Maui, HI – March 27, 2017 – Queen Ka’ahumanu Center and HMSA present Let’s Fish & Poi Together!, a local-style festival with Maui Poke Challenge on Saturday, April 8, 2017 from 10am to 2pm.
The Maui Poke Challenge will be judged in three categories – Keiki Amateur (age 17 years and under), Adult-Amateur and Adult-Professional. Judging will be based on a point system in the categories of taste, originality and presentation. Judges include Michael Lofaro, Executive Chef of Grand Wailea, Becky Speere of Maui No Ka Oi Magazine and QKC’s own culinary talent, Michael Arakawa. Prize winners will receive a $100 QKC gift card, a $200 gift card to Grand Wailea Humunukunukuapua’a restaurant, and a gift certificate for Sunday Brunch for two at Ka’anapali Beach Hotel.
“Along with super contestants such as Christopher Napoleon of Ka’anapali Beach Hotel, we have a number of amateur contestants ready for the challenge. With categories for keiki, amateurs and professionals, no one is left out!”, says Toni Rojas, Marketing Director. “Everybody knows someone who makes great poke. It’s free to enter, so show off your special recipe and have fun!”, says Rojas.
Along with the Maui Poke Challenge there will be a boat expo by Valley Isle Marine Center, outreach and education by Maui’s ocean-related non-profit organizations, interactive keiki activities and entertainment.
Master of Ceremonies, Da Island Boy, Ke’van of KPOA will deliver a live, island-style entertainment lineup including ‘Ohana Groove performing “fish & poi” and Maui’s own kings of reggae, Malino.
Let’s Fish & Poi Together is presented by Queen Ka’ahumanu Center and HMSA, along with KPOA and Valley Isle Marine Center.
